State of the States
Each year, the Arts Education Partnership (AEP) releases a “State of the States” report summarizing arts education policy in each state and the District of Columbia. There are 13 policies listed in the report, including policies related to access for students, teacher certification, and funding.
Some highlights from the 2016 report include:
- 50/51 have academic standards in the arts. Iowa is the only state without arts standards.
- 20/51 have a state arts education grant program or fund a school for the arts. Pennsylvania is not one of these states.
AEP’s ArtScan database provides more in-depth information about Pennsylvania and allows users to compare policies across states.
One note: The State of States report erroneously identifies Pennsylvania as a state without a licensure requirement for arts teachers. AEC has contacted a staff member at the Arts Education Partnership to report this error.
