What is artlook® SWPA?

artlook® SWPA is a free online hub created to help educators in our region immerse young people in powerful, personally relevant arts learning opportunities. Developed by Ingenuity in Chicago and customized as a collaboration among local teachers, school and district administrators, arts partners, and Arts Ed Collaborative staff, artlook® SWPA provides an up-to-date picture of the people, places, and programs supporting arts learning in Southwestern Pennsylvania. This publicly available and searchable map is the only one of its kind in Pennsylvania to combine arts education data from schools, arts organizations, and teaching artists. Check out the live map here:

The Arts Ed Collaborative team has created an artlook® SWPA tutorial to highlight features of the map and offer a guided tour. Check out our video below to learn more and see how this new hub can benefit you:

Benefits of artlook® SWPA

  • For schools, artlook® SWPA offers instant data infrastructure for arts programs, opportunities to secure partnerships and resources based on your needs, and ways to build and sustain strong arts programs with public accountability.
  • For arts partners, artlook® SWPA can reduce staff time needed to match with schools and build new partnerships, help market programs to schools and funders, and reduce grant reporting time.
  • For all participants, artlook® SWPA increases opportunities for collaboration and communication! In 2021, AEC will also offer first-time participants stipends to support arts education ($500-750 per school/partner as available) thanks to funding from the Hillman Foundation, the Jack Buncher Foundation, and The Pittsburgh Foundation.
