Arts Ed Collaborative seeks six teaching artists
Arts Ed Collaborative (AEC) seeks six teaching artists (TAs) to co-develop a viable program model enabling TAs to work as substitute teachers. These substitutes will work in local schools and teach arts integrated lessons. Selected TAs will co-create this work with AEC staff. This effort is supported by the Grable Foundation’s Tomorrow Campaign and addresses three regional challenges:
- Insufficient and inequitable access to arts learning opportunities with artists during the school day
- A substitute teacher shortage
- Instability within the teaching artist profession
About this position
- Temporary, part-time, independent contractor position
- Approximately 15 hours/month January-April 2021
- Compensation is $2,000 stipend per teaching artist
Responsibilities
- Attend six project meetings with AEC staff to shape the work, share updates, and receive assignments
- Follow through on assignment between scheduled meetings
- Share information with the project team via meeting report backs and using shared documents (e.g., Google Drive)
- Update progress on tasks and maintain communications with the AEC team
- Connect with school district personnel to learn about their substitute teacher policies, rate of pay, and requirements for employment (e.g., education, credentials, clearances etc.)
- Help draft questions for youth and educator focus groups and/or surveys intended to measure interest in arts integration learning opportunities
- Provide feedback on a playbook for this substitute teacher initiative
- Promote the project when it is ready to launch with at least ten other TAs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working in groups and collaborating with diverse team members to achieve results
- At least two years of experience providing arts experiences for youth in a school setting
- Experience with and/or motivated by communicating with school- and district-level administrators
- Knowledge of culturally responsive/sustaining pedagogy and practices
- Knowledge of and experience with arts integration practices preferred
- Phone, Zoom, and email communication skills
- Ease using Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, Zoom
- All PA state clearances
