In August 2019, Arts Ed Collaborative worked with Duquesne City School District on our latest City As Classroom day. We planned a day-long intensive that saw participants visit sites throughout Pittsburgh.
First, the Duquesne City team visited Pittsburgh Festival Opera to create “machines” using creative movement with Regional Arts Ed Day keynote Anqwenique Kinsel. Next, they visited our friend Nina Barbuto of Assemble to hack different objects and learn about Assemble’s STEAM programming. Lastly, we took our participants to the Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse, where creative education manager Melissa Rogers guided participants in using recycled materials to create a vision for the district.
Each City As Classroom program is different—we choose sites based on each team’s interests and needs. We look forward to assembling more City As Classroom days for partners like you in the coming year.
