Arts Ed Collaborative is very excited to announce artist, activist, and 1Hood Media co-founder and CEO Jasiri X as our headliner for Regional Arts Ed Day 2020!
Jasiri has spoken at Harvard, the University of Chicago, NYU, Stanford, and elsewhere, and has performed his music at the Smithsonian Institution and the Apollo Theater. In 2015, he received the USA Cummings Fellowship in Music, a BMe Fellowship, and a Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Artist as Activist Fellowship. He was the first independent hip-hop artist to be awarded an honorary doctorate from the Chicago Theological Seminary in 2016.
Throughout his musical career, Jasiri has addressed violence and social justice with songs like “Purple Roses”, “Free the Jena 6”, and “Strange Fruit (Class of 2013)”. He has worked with the Movement for Black Lives and partnered with organizations like The Gathering for Justice, Blackout for Human Rights, Justice or Else, BYP100, and others. Internationally, his work has taken him to Colombia and Italy, and he has collaborated with artists such as Grammy Award winner Rhymefest.
Jasiri has presented at previous Regional Arts Ed Days, and 1Hood has collaborated with Arts Ed Collaborative on several occasions, including on our new collective impact initiative focused on increasing the quantity, diversity, and connectivity of arts learning opportunities in the region.
We are thrilled to welcome Jasiri as our keynote presenter for Regional Arts Ed Day 2020! Regional Arts Ed Day 2020 will take place on February 17, 2020, in Cornell School District.
